2022 River Weed Rodeo

Flathead Rivers Alliance was honored to welcome the annual River Weed Rodeo under its event offerings starting this year to assist with coordination capacity. Brenda Guzman has been the mastermind behind the River Weed Rodeo on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River since 2003 and she remains the dedicated event organizer going forward. The Weed Rodeo is a noxious weed pulling event that includes private volunteers combined with commercial rafting outfitters, government organizations, non-profits and local businesses to hand pull weeds along our beautiful river corridor. Historically the event has been facilitated from rafts on the river, but due to unsafe late high water conditions the event was moved to walking select Flathead National Forest and Glacier National Park river access sites. Huge thanks to Brenda, the almost 100 volunteers and Wild River Adventures for hosting post event celebration during the June 17th event!

Background: Groups have a full day of rafting with one of the four commercial raft companies or join the group as private boaters. Along the way the groups stop and listen to a short educational talk on noxious weeds led by a local weed expert. All participants bring leather gloves for hand pulling weeds. The Middle Fork of the Flathead is a beautiful free flowing river that is protected by the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. The native plants and animals on the river corridor appreciate your help.
