Formed in 2019, the Flathead Rivers Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the Flathead River System. As the only friends group for the two administrative agencies for the river system, it is our goal to extend the agencies capacity to administer the Comprehensive River Management Plan for the nationally designated Wild & Scenic River and uphold the remarkable and outstanding values of the river system. Through education, stewardship and outreach we empower active community and stakeholders, we work alongside our partners to maintain the health of the Flathead River watersheds and mitigate human impacts, as well as to ensure access and enjoyment for all users. The Spotted Bear Ranger District, Hungry Horse Ranger District, Glacier View Ranger District within the Flathead National Forest, Glacier National Park and British Columbia-SE Kootenay are home of the three forks of the Flathead River. FRA works on the traditional homelands of the the Séliš, Ql̓ispé and Ktunaxa the longest-serving stewards of the river system. The river system has been traditionally frequented by Amskapi Piikani.

Each summer, Flathead Rivers Alliance hosts 200+ volunteers of all ages equating 800+ volunteer hours annually across a range of programs including, River Ambassador, River Recreation/Citizen Scientist, water quality monitoring, river invasive weed pulls, river cleanups, and river access improvement projects. Our work includes a multitude of year-round dynamic programs, events and projects. We believe in getting our hands wet, working alongside our partners and instilling stewardship into everyone we meet with a lead-by-example – we’ll-jump-first mindset. Through education and outreach we seek to provide the tools and access to knowledge that fosters an environment of self-teaching and pride in the river.
